Escape the Crowds to run Australia’s Highest Marathon

Inaugural Run — Sunday 20 November 2016

The Great Alpine Road traverses some of Victoria’s most stunning alpine areas, offering glimpses of Victoria’s pioneering days. From gold mining, to the legends of the mountain cattlemen and now home to Victoria’s adventure activity playground based around running, skiing, walking, mountain biking and horse riding.

Welcome to the inaugural running of what must be Australia’s highest and most stunning and challenging marathon and half marathon course—The Great Alpine Road Marathon and Half Marathon.

This run, destined to be one of Australia’s top marathon running courses will commence in the heart of the Australian Alps at Dinner Plain Village and follows the iconic Great Alpine Road through Mount Hotham Village and out to Mt St Bernard before returning to Dinner Plain.

The half marathon starts at Hotham Heights and runs along the top of the Alps to Blowhard Hut before turning back to Hotham Heights and continuing to the finish at Dinner Plain.

This is the chance of a lifetime to escape the crowds and run across the rooftop of Australia. Challenge yourself on this “hilly” course in a run that is not just about time but about stamina and determination and beautiful scenery. Views that include the Razorback, Mount Feathertop, Mount Bogong, Mount Buffalo, Mount Hotham the High Plains and the Kiewa Valley.
